ASB Getwise

Today was LS2 first ASB Getwise session. Our Teacher from the ASB Getwise was teaching us about how we can save money and how a card works.  We then got into teams for this activite, each group got 1800$ we then were working as a team to think of a group name and we picked  The last  kava benders. When then had to to pay our passport to fiji and the flights, the passport was 200$ if you would pay it  if you wanted it now, if you wanted it later  you would have to  pay 400$ my group choose the 200$ then we gave our money in and my group was left with 1600. We choose the 200$ opsion because it was the cheapest one there and we wanted to send the rest of the money on the activites, hotel, food This was a fun and cool activite  hope we could do more like this in the future i liked the way we were working as a team.

Learning and understanding fractions

L.I: To learn how to group and split in fractions.

This week is our last session with Mr Fisi’iahi for this term as it was last week. For this week my group and I worked on fractions and played a game called Play tower of hanoi. We also used Multi Link cubes to help us understand fractions and to help us solve the questions. I really enjoyed playing with my partner solving fraction questions. We also played a game called Dicy numbers which got us into parnters. This game was really fun and competitive as we had to see who was the first one to win.  Understanding fractions helps us understand the groups, twice and the double. Double means twice as example 6+6=2 or 6 x 2=12.

LI: To practice defining math's vocabulary(words)

To help us practise the meaning of maths words. Mrs Anderson taught us a game called maths word challenge. I worked with Heavenly and Leroy on this game.  To play the game 2 players found a word from the maths word game,  then had to give a clue to the person trying to  figure out the math word who was sitting with their back to the other players.

Math challenge

LI: To find the most efficient strategy to answer the question

This week our group practiced finding the answer to written maths questions. To do this we needed to first find the numbers we were working with. We decided the most efficient strategy was to use our times table knowledge. Being able to find how many groups of a number made this strategy efficient.

For maths me and my group were learning how to jump to the nearest 10 by using the jumping line.our first number that we started with was 11 so we had to jump to the nearest 10 so the next's number would have been 20 .Then from 20 i jump to 50 then i jumped 30 to get to 50.Then from 50 i plused  another 50 then i used all my numbers to get to 100 and then my answer was 89.
