ML Forming an Opinion

 LI: consider both perspectives.

Today for inquiry my group and I read information about Kuirau Park, Rotorua, New Zealand we then looked if the information was true or false if the event took place or not by looking at one place in New Zealand.

Something I found interesting was that some of the information written was real but at the end it was not true.

Main Idea

LI: To identify the main ideas in a text

This week for inquiry we retold how Maui slowed down the sun using main ideas.

First, we watch a video of how maui slowed down the sun. After that, we wrote multiple ideas about the important ideas in the story. Next we wrote 4 very important ideas from the important ideas. Lastly, we wrote 3 vital ideas.

Something I found interesting was that the most important ideas

Venn Diagram

LI:Find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”.

For inquiry my group read the beginning of how the Rangi and Papa got seperated. We then made a venn diagram about what the differences or the video version and the written versions. Then we looked if we could find any similarities about the book and the video. Lastly we wrote what we prefered between the video and the written version  of the story. I prefered the ...

Something I found interesting was  how many similarities we could find between the video version and the written version

Summary

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

Today for inquiry my group has done a summary about retelling the story about how Rangi and Papa got seperated.

Storytelling is a huge part of the culture and history of Aotearoa. This taonga from our ancestors is the heartbeat that will keep our whakapapa alive for those who are still to walk in their footsteps.

In this task we picked out 20 important words from the sand art that we watched some are Maori, parents, free, darkness, etc. Then we picked out 6 most important words to sum up the video that e watch into fewer sentences.

Something I found interesting was how the man could draw a lot of information with sand.

Simple Machine

LI: To find information about simple machines

We collaborated in our group to find information about simple machines. There are six simple machines.

  1. Pulley: A pulley is a simple machine that is very useful to lift up heavy objects. For example: If you were in an elevator the pulley pulls you up to take you to the next level floor.

  2. Lever: Lever helps to weigh the mass of something unknown.

  3. Inclined plane: An inclined plane is a ramp that helps heavy wheeled objects move up.

  4. Wedge: A wedge is a simple machine with a sharp tip and a thick edge. The tip is used to stop a door from moving

  5. Wheel and axle: A wheel and axle is used to pull something that is heavy.

  6. Screw: A screw is used to help grip on the surface it is screwed into so that it could hold together.

Our challenge was to create labelled diagrams (information pictures) to show our understanding of the information for each simple machine. We also summarised our facts in 25 words.

Technological practices

LI: To use technological practices process to design a toy.

  • For Mrs Fisi’iahi’s Inquiry lesson, we were focusing on the three last technological processes. They were: build, test and evaluate. We used the required materials in order to build the AUV rover. After this, we tested and compared each group’s rover to see which group was able to scramble across the floor the furthest. Evaluating our results was the last step.

I found this activity and and cool because i got to work with my group and have fun.

Cultural Art/Distance Learning

LI: To create a piece of cultural art

Inspired by art creations by Raku Inoue we went outside and collected leaves, twigs, and other plant debris to create our own cultural pattern or symbol. Then I was thinking about what I'm going to make  with the leaves and twigs I got, then I got an idea of making a butterfly. For this butterfly I used 4 leaf’s, 2 medium size leaf’s and 2 small size leaf’s. I then added the medium size leaf on the top of the twigs I got and the small size leaf on the bottom bit of the medium size leaf. Then i got  a medium twig and i put the it under the 4 leaf’s and then i got a small twig and i broken it into 2 twigs the i put the 2 twigs that i broken off from the small twig on top of the medium twig and that's how i got a butterfly. I found It quite hard to do this activity because It took me a long time to decide on what I was going to make. I enjoyed this activity because there were so many ideas to use to make an animal with the twigs and leaves . An interesting fact I found out about Raku Inoue is that you can be so creative with what you are making. This activity was fun and cool.

Tatau

LI: To create a DLO that tells others about tatau.

Today I made a DLO about tattooing in my culture. The first thing I did was I used my smart searching skills to find out what the Tongan traditional tattoo looks like, what it means, and what It's called. I then found out that the Tongan tattoo is called the tatau And that the tatau represented the Tongan people's loyalty and love to their family and the new responsibilities they had to support. I also found out that the Tongan tatatau is a representation of Tongan society and the journey of the  Tongan people’s past, present and future. I found it quite hard to do this because I didn't know that much about the Tongan tattoos. I enjoyed doing this activity because  I got to learn new things about the Tongan tatau. An interesting fact I found out about the tatatau Is that  how the tatatau represented the Tongan people's loyalty and love to their family and the new responsibilities they had to support this activity was fun and cool. I hope we get to do another activity like this in the future.

Why it is important to be hydrated?

LI: To understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and learning.

After defining hydration and dehydration we worked collaboratively to use our smart searching skills to help us find facts that would teach others why it is important for our health and learning. One fact I learnt about staying hydrated and dehydrated is that when your dehydrated your lungs get dried up but when you drink water it makes your lungs go back to normal and that means your hydrated. Something I found interesting is that when your urine is dark that means you haven't drank enough water but when its light it means you've drank loads of water which is good.

The Qualities of a Good Leader

LI: To unpack what leadership looks like.

This week LS2 where learning about what is a Leadership. After defining the words team, leader, role model and responsibility we worked together to share our thinking and co-constructed a 25 word paragraph that defined leadership. I liked how me and my group worked together to do this DLO and how we learned knew things about a leader that we didn't know before.

Decorating The Tree

L.I: To decorate the tree in the office with our handmade decorations.

This Term LS2 was working on our sewing. We got to pick our holiday decoration and I chose a Hanukkah stocking and my other one was a Tongan palm tree . We chose to hang them on the Christmas tree. Today most of the LS2 students have finished their sewing so we went to hang them on the tree we first went to the office where the tree was then when we got there we were talking with Mr Jonhstion (our client) about our holiday decorations and how they look and that if we had any thing we would do differently next time. Then we stood up one by one to hang our holiday decoration on the tree. This was fun and cool looking and we put our holiday decorations on the christmas tree.

Design Technology Challenge

LI:To design and make a holiday decoration that fits the client brief.

This week, The LS2 students designed and created Holiday Decorations to hang on the christmas tree. We started off  by asking questions to our client  Mr Johnston then we created a DLO(Brainstorm, mood board) with the information that Mr jontsthon gave us we did this DLO to understand what we are going to make and to see how many materials that we are going to use . The materials LS2 used were felt, thread, cotton, needles and many more but before we started on creating our designs we practiced how to do blanket stitching and running stitch so that we can get the hang of sewing. Some of the holidays people chose were Hanukkah, Dewali, Christmas and more. My decoration  that I made was a palm tree with a Tongan flag sewed onto it and my second one was a Hanukkah socking. I’ve been working hard on these decorations and so had the rest of LS2. I really enjoyed this activity because I learnt how to do new things and even though I had some accidents with the needle I still had fun making my decorations. something i would think on working on with sowing is to i need to stop stabbing myself with the needle.

Inquiry

LI: To think deeply about a change I would make

I will make every kid in NZ that doesn't have lunch to have lunch the reason i am going to do that is because if .  to make every homeless person to not be homeless anymore. After that I will help people that are struggling with paying the bills and rent. I will make sure adults will get a good amount of money they deserve. I will pay for people that can’t afford school equipment and sport equipment. I will make sure that we will have more Maori and Pasifika teachers to teach the kids about there coulters and other coulters.

Inquiry

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice

This week i decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for Jasinder Ardern because she is going to make sure that every kid that don't have lunch in Nz will have lunch This means if Jasinder Ardern Won the election in my electorate Jenny Salesa would be our member of parliament and Jasinder Ardern would become the Prime Minister.

Family Tree

LI:To create a Family about your Family

This week for our Te Reo Challenge, I created a DLO that talks about my family tree DLO that shows my family members' names. I used Maori words that could help us understand  more about my  family tree. The family tree includes our siblings, parents, grandparents and great grandparents and also it has designs I traced and created. The most interesting fact I learned well making this DLO was that another word for Family Tree is Whakapapa.

Its cool 2b me

L.I: To complete this task that will help you understand things about me.

This DLO is about me, This DLO can help you understand some things you may know or may not know about me. The  Dare program helps us and inform us with things  that can kill us and helps us make wise choices.  What I really enjoyed was writing down My goals for this year. One of my goals is To become a famous rugby player. For example I want to be like Andrew Fifta when I grow up.

Making Connections to problem solving

L.I Making connections to problem solving.

Today we made a tangram puzzle with LS1 because we had no internet connection.A Tangram puzzle is an ancient Chinese puzzle. We used  A4 paper and scissors. Then we were following the instructions After that we work together as a group to help each other out. Then the challenge was to make a square out of all the pieces we made. We  found a solution to solve the puzzle. It was really complicated to solve but at the end we did it. It was fun and challenging to make this puzzle. We  used problem solving to figure out how to do the puzzle .
